Walking into Cathedral 73 we were struck by how modern but glamorous the interior was, before settling into a grand living room/ seated area to enjoy our afternoon tea. We were given tea menus first, before being told the sandwiches and cakes would be served in two courses. The range of teas to choose from was much more extensive in terms of types available than I'd been offered before. So for my first tea I chose a flowering one, whilst my Mum went with Assam (a regular favourite of ours). My flowering tea arrived in a quirky glass tea pot, which enabled me to see the bud unfurl into a beautiful flower!
Next the course of sandwiches and miniature cakes arrived, I went with salmon and then ham, on gluten free bread of course, as we always have the tradition of eating our sandwiches before we're allowed cakes. The cakes were so tasty and fluffy I could hardly believe that they were gluten free.
My second tea was a beautiful camomile with the buds left to see in the teapot, accompanied by a gluten free scone and my very first hot crossed bun. Both of which not only had the correct texture, but unlike some others I've tasted, they had risen well and had the right height too. Between the excellent service and the great tasting food, this really was one of the best afternoon teas that I've had so far!
