World Diabetes Day Running Challenge

This World Diabetes Day 2017, I'll be joining fellow runners/ people with diabetes and healthcare professionals to mark the day in a special way- we're going to be running around 30 different doctors surgeries in Cardiff to raise awareness of the condition!

Starting off at the Diabetes UK Cymru head offices in Cardiff at 9am, we're going to be running around the city centre and the outer areas of the city, handing out information packs to the GP surgeries we plan to visit as we go.

GPs are often the essential link in the chain that connects people with symptoms of diabetes who come to see them when they're poorly, to diagnosis at the surgery or the hospital. In my case my doctor was aware of the 4t's of diabetes; toilet, tired, thirsty and thinner, that I presented with on May 10th 2001 and quite simply put, he saved my life.

Therefore, our hope is that by running to each surgery and raising awareness as we go, we can get people talking about the 4t's of diagnosis. On the day there will also be a thunder clap that people can participate in, which I will add the details to the blog when I have them. We'll be finishing our route hopefully at the event for WDD at Cardiff Met in the evening, but if you want to keep up to date with our progress on the day, I'll be live tweeting the event!
